Midway between Williamsburg and Jamaica along Metropolitan Avenue, this suburban-style enclave of English descent is one of the more secluded neighborhoods of Queens. Tucked away between two historic cemeteries (St. John and All Faiths Lutheran), there is a more quiet-than-normal feeling about Middle Village. Almost all commerce is located at the southern and eastern borders leaving large expanses of residential-only streets. There is a gradual slope uphill to the northeast, which lofts this border high above the Long Island Expressway with expansive views over the borough. Balustrades and belvederes are popular in this section of the neighborhood. One and two-family homes are common in Middle Village with small low-rise multi-family apartment buildings sprinkled throughout. Only along Eliot Avenue and the more level streets in the southern section can one find street-long tracts in which the english cottage style is the most prevalent.
