Like the previous typology (Twinned Houses), these houses are rare in the borough. In most neighborhoods, it is not one-and-two family houses that occupy the corner lot but instead a larger apartment building or commercial structure. One has to move far away from mass transit and commercial strips to where low-rise residential construction abounds. The examples featured here are all from Maspeth and Middle Village, except the lower right photo which is from Corona. Stylistically, what they all have in common is their tendency to let their architectural character “wrap” around to a side elevation; having more than a façade-only presence. This gives them a minor "landmark" quality (i.e. "the green-and-white house on the corner") as their visibility is increased from more angles.
