One of the few solidly affluent areas of Queens, Beechhurst was a resort town for the rich and famous in the silent film era in the northernmost section of Queens with views towards the western end of Long Island Sound. Even with its elevated economic status, it is not immune from the incrementalism that defines the architectural vernacular of the borough. Slightly conspicuous pre-fab additions with the same idiosyncratic material selections and collaged sense of composition can be found in many of the houses of the neighborhood. Most of these are large single-family residences on larger-than-average plots of land but a few condos and co-ops are also in the mix, including the Beechhurst Towers, once a famous hotel frequented by early movie and Broadway stars.  The neighborhood is bordered by the East River to the north,  Cross Island Parkway to the south, the Throgs Neck bridge to the east, and Whitestone to the west across 154th Street.
