In contrast to the last typology, and at the other end of the scale spectrum, are apartment buidings. Although perhaps not technically considered "houses", these are included in the study since they are generally built on small scale lots with low-rise residential neighbors and contribute greatly to the varied character of the Queens housing stock. Most were '"developed" privately by the original home-owner of the building lot in the 1980's and 90's when financing was more readily available. Not as disruptive as the glass-clad residential towers of today, these small-scale multi-family buildings integrate well into the neighborhood using the similar materials and motifs of the eclectic Queens vernacular.
